The history of Bordeaux is long and distinguished, it has been the centre of the wine world for over 2000 years.
The first vineyards were planted at the time of the Romans. But we do not need to go back so far in time to understand why this region has become the epicentre of the wine world.
Over one hundred and fifty years ago in the Medoc region of Bordeaux,
a wine classification system was created. Brokers from the wine industry were asked by Napoleon III to select the best wines to represent France in the International Exposition of 1855. The top Medoc wines were ranked according to price and quality. Times have changed since 1855, however the créme de la créme of the top divisions are still considered the very best of the best. Wines such at Château Margaux, Château Latour and Château Mouton-Rothschild have graced the tables of royalty for centuries and they represent the blue chips of the wine world.
