Our Wines: St. Emilion Wines

Saint-Emilion is the oldest wine area of the Bordeaux region and is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in recognition of the great terroir of Saint Emilion. Saint Emilion wine is considered to be the most robust of the Bordeaux available. They are generous, richly coloured, and reach their maturity quicker than most other red Bordeaux.

A new Saint Emilion classification, the first one in 10 years, came into force in September 2006. The 2006 Saint Emilion Classification selected 61 crus classés (great growths) with 16 Saint-Emilion Premiers Grands Crus Classés and 47 Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés.

  • Ausone

    Ausone

Château Ausone is one of only two wines to be ranked with Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) in the Classification of St. Emilion Wine. The vines of Château Ausone are known for their good age (approx. 50 years on average) and its small production of only around 2,000 cases per year make this a highly desirable wine.

  • Cheval Blanc

    Cheval Blanc

Like Château Ausone, Château Cheval Blanc is rated Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) in the Classification of St. Emilion Wine. The Château puts great investment in to the production of this wine and prefers to take a more organic approach. Only around 6,000 cases of this wine that truly deserves its status among the Bordeaux first growths.

  • Pavie

    Pavie

Château Pavie is a wine that has seen great change of the past decade after the estate was acquired by Gérard Perse in 1998. Perse has heavily invested in Château Pavie and the wines have taken a more modern style. Pavie is a wine to watch and one day may provide significant challenge to Ausone and Cheval Blanc.

  • Monbousquet

    Monbousquet

Was considered a notorious underachiever, but since its acquisition by the same supermarket tycoon who also owns Château Pavie and equally large investment by Perse in this Château, Monbousquet wines are now amongst the finest in St-Emilion.
